An Edwardian rose brass Suffolk latch stamped Gibbons of Wolverhampton.

 

18.5cm - 7 1 / 4" height of handle 

5cm - 2" width of back plates

6cm - 2 3 / 8" projection of handle

8.7cm - 3 1 / 2" length of bar 

 

6.5cm - 2 1 / 2" height of hinge bar backplate

7.5cm - 3" height of middle bar holder

8.5cm - 3 3 / 8" length of catch bar

 

Gibbons of Wolverhampton were established as lock and key makers in Wolverhampton in 1670 by Thomas Gibbons.  By 1750 James Gibbons had take over and by the second quarter of the 19th Century they had moved into door fittings and Architectural metalwork based at St John's works of Church lane Wolverhampton.  Please refer to Jim Evan's article entitled 'A Gazetteer of Lock and Key makers' which gives a fascinating look at Gibbons which can be found on Wolverhampton history and heritage society's website www.historywebsite.co.uk.

Please note everything is here except the catch which is attached to the door jamb.  This in the process of being fabricated and a new one made.
